Sebuah tulisan lama. Saya masih ingat, tulisan ini adalah hasil refleksi sesudah terjebak di dalam Metromini yang tertahan kemacetan parah, di siang bolong, di suatu lingkungan pelosok Jakarta yang sungguh aduhai mempesona kumuhnya, juga semrawut dan bising. Pengalaman yang cukup biasa di kota ini.

Asap di atas kali. Di atas air penuh limbah dan sampah, hijau menebar bau, diramaikan tikus-tikus sebesar kucing. Rumah-rumah berjejer, batu bata hingga papan lapuk dan seng berkarat, berhimpitan bertumpukan menyempil terdesak, kumuh menyerupai kandang kambing. Udara panas menandingi neraka jahanam, keringat menetes mengalir deras, asap rokok dan metromini bersiteru bergulungan. Suara-suara tak sudi berhenti, mobil motor dan bus PPD, kondektur gila disambut pedagang kaki lima. Hari demi hari tetap seperti ini, semerbak tinja dan kencing siang malam, mengundang seringai orang-orang hilang ingatan: Hari ini masih menganggur.
